Epsom Salt Painting

Never ever hear that salt can be use for painting?
Wonder how it is working?
Now prepare yourself to get involve in salt painting. Come on!


1 minute puffy paint art activity, painted with large vehicles, painted with an electronic toothbrush and many more. All of these art activities are very easy to set up and need only a few things. Continuing in the same line, a fun and easy art activity with Epsom salt.









 Adding a couple of heaping table spoons of Epsom salt to 6 small bowls. I also set out brushes and a cup of water.

 
 Added drops of food color and water to each bowl to make salt “paint”

Then paint it up with your like!

Castanets

Make some merry noise with castanets made out of cardboard or paper plate.

Do and have one for your own!

Materials

-          Small paper plate or thick cardboard

-          Colored permanent markers or any water-based paint

-          Scissors

-          Hot glue gun

-          Hole punch or pencil

-          Buttons, coins or metal washers

-          Elastic band or ribbon

Steps:

1.     The castanets can either be made from a paper plate or from thick cardboard.  If you are using cardboard, cut it to a size that more or less fits in your hand when folded. Mine is about 4 x 8 inches.

 

2.       Fold the paper plate or cardboard in the middle. Crease lightly along the fold but do not crease too much. The castanet should maintain a certain spring when opening and closing it.

 

3.       Think of what shape, object or character that you want your castanet to look like. Try to think of something that is somewhat roundish or squarish in shape. You may perhaps want to make flower or seashell-shaped castanets or go with a favorite cartoon character. Draw an outline on the front panel of the cardboard.

 

4.       While keeping the cardboard folded, cut along the outline. If the cardboard is too thick, you may (a) cut out the design on the front panel first; (b) keep the cardboard folded and trace the outline onto the back panel of the cardboard; (c.) then cut out the back panel.

 

5.       If you're using a paper plate or if your cardboard castanet is a lot larger than your palm, it is best to attach a pair of straps for an easy grip.  While keeping the paper plate or cardboard folded, punch 2 pairs of holes about an inch from the folded edge. If the cardboard is too thick for a hole punch, you may use the point of a pencil to carefully poke holes.

 

6.     Draw any design that you like using a black permanent marker or a black crayon. You can go with more spontaneous or abstract patterns or draw something that goes with your current lesson or theme. You may also draw with the paper plate folded or spread open, whichever you prefer.

 

7.       Color the entire castanet using permanent markers or any water-based paint.

 

8.       As an option, you can paint the flip side of the castanet as well. Allow the paint to dry.

 

9.       If you want to attach straps, cut a pair of approximately 8-inch long elastic bands or ribbons. Take one elastic band or ribbon and insert the ends into the pair of holes in one side of the castanet.  Knot the ends from the inside making sure that the knot is bigger than the hole.  When using a ribbon, you can tie the ends of the ribbon together instead of knotting each end.

10.   Attach the second elastic band or ribbon.

 

11.   Try holding the castanets with your thumb in one strap and the four other fingers in the opposite strap. Open and close the castanets and see how well the straps fit. Adjust the length of the straps to achieve a comfortable fit.

 

12.   Use hot glue gun to attach 2 or more pairs of buttons, coins or metal washers along the inner edges of the castanets. The coins or buttons should be opposite each other so that when the two sides of the castanet are clapped together, they produce a nice clicking sound.

 

 

13.   To use the castanet, simply hold it with your hand and clap the two sides of the castanet together to make some merry noise.

Rubber Band Painting

Simple painting with rubber band. You will have fun! 

Place a piece of paper on a baking sheet and wrap rubber bands around the whole thing. (If you refer to them as rubber binders, I'll have to think about whether or not we can still be friends.)






Paint the rubber bands.
 

 Pull back the rubber bands and let them go.





 Rotate the paper and repeat.

Fuzzy Paper Plate Bear

The Fuzzy Paper Plate Bear

Materials

-          Large paper plate (8.5 to 10 inches)

-          Small paper bowl (7 to 8 oz.) or empty fruit cup

-          Construction paper or cardstock

-          Cotton or paper towels

-          Scissors

-          White glue

-          Wiggle eyes

-          Yarn

-          Large pompom, craft foam, felt, or paper

-          Tempera or acrylic paint

-          Paint brush

Steps:

 
1.     Prepare a paper plate and a bowl

Use a large paper plate for the bear's head and either a small paper bowl (7 to 8 oz.) or an empty fruit cup for the bear's snout.

2.      Paint the snout

Think about the color of your bear's snout. Polar bears and pandas have white snouts so you need not paint your paper bowl. If using a transparent fruit cup, paint the outside of the cup with white acrylic paint.

Brown and black bears have colored snouts. Paint your paper bowl with light brown tempera or acrylic paint; use acrylic paint for the fruit cup. Allow the paint to dry completely.

3.     Cut and glue on a pair of ears

Cut out a pair of round ears from cardstock or construction paper. Choose a color that would correspond to the inside of the bear's ears. For this polar bear, I chose a pair of pink ears. For my other bears, I used black for the panda bear and brown for both the black and brown bear.

Position the paper plate right side up and glue on the pair of ears at the top edge of the plate.

 

4.      Cut and glue on a pair of oval eye patches (for panda)

An addditional step is needed for making a panda bear. Cut out a pair of oval shapes from black paper. Flip the paper plate over so that the plate's bottom side is facing up and the ears are glued at the back. Glue the pair of oval shapes on the top half of the plate.

5.     Glue on the snout

With the plate's bottom side facing up, glue on the snout close to the plate's bottom edge.

For the panda bear, the snout should partially cover the lower part of the oval eye patches.

6.    Cover the entire face with fuzz

For the polar bear and panda, glue on cotton onto the entire paper plate, except on the snout and on the panda's eye patches.

7.     Paint the fur

To make a brown or black bear, paint the tissue with watered down tempera or acrylic paint.

*If you are concerned about messing up the paint on the snout, you can glue on the snout after painting the fur.

8.     Glue on eyes, a nose, and a mouth

Glue on a pair of wiggle eyes, a large pompom nose, and a short length of yarn for the mouth.

3D Paper Pumpkin

Get boring with 2D art and craft? Isn't fun with 3D?

And now 3D Paper Pumpkin.
 

Prepare materials and do it!

Materials

-          Orange construction paper

-          Green pipe cleaner

-          Glue stick

-          White glue

-          Scissors

Steps:

1.       Print out these pumpkin patterns or make your own by folding any sheet of paper in the middle and drawing an arc along the paper's folded edge.

 


2.       While keeping the paper folded, cut out your pumpkin pattern.
*Our printable pumpkin patterns come in 2 sizes - a small and a medium-sized pumpkin. Choose the size that you like and cut out the pattern along its outline.

 


3. Trace the pumpkin pattern at least ten times on orange construction paper.

 


4. Cut out the pumpkin shapes.

 


5. Fold each pumpkin shape in the middle.





6. Without unfolding a pumpkin shape, apply glue on one of its outer faces.
We recommend using glue stick instead of white glue or any liquid-type glue to prevent the paper from wrinkling or warping.




7. Glue a second folded pumpkin shape on top of the first one, keeping both pumpkin shapes aligned at the edges.




8. Press on the pair of pumpkin shapes to glue them together. Right photo shows how the pair would look when opened up.




9. Continue gluing the pumpkin shapes one on top of the other, making sure they are aligned along the edges.




10. After you have positioned the last pumpkin shape in place, cut a length of green pipe cleaner to make the pumpkin's stem. Use white glue to attach it along the straight edge of the pumpkin shapes.




11. Glue the first and last pumpkin shapes together, sandwiching the pipe cleaner in the middle. You may need to apply more white glue along the pipe cleaner to make sure that it stays in place. Press on the glued area, especially along the section of the pipe cleaner stem.




12. Once the stem has been secured in place, carefully open up each of the paper flaps to transform your project into a three-dimensional paper pumpkin. When you're happy with how you positioned and spaced the flaps, allow the glue on your paper pumpkin to dry completely. You will discover that once the glue has set, the flaps will be more rigid and your paper pumpkin a lot sturdier.




13. Trim off any excess length on the pipe cleaner stem. You may slightly curve it or shape it into a hooked handle.
Make these paper pumpkins to decorate your home or classroom for Halloween or autumn. You can put them on tables, hang them or string smaller paper pumpkins together into a Halloween garland.

 

Bubble Print

Soap Free Bubble Recipe:

• Shallow Containers ~ we used shallow mason jars
• Food Coloring
• Straws
• White Paper
• Trays ~ to contain the drips
• Milk ~ yep you read right…plain old milk!

Kids love blowing frothy, noisy bubbles in their milk.

I find it to be too much at our dinner table, but at the art table I am all for it!  

I love that this simple recipe only uses milk and food coloring.  No icky soap taste, just good old fashioned fun!  Totally a win, especially if you have toddlers.


All you need to do is add a little food coloring to the milk and blow bubbles until your hearts content. I love the cotton candy color that the milk gives the bubbles.
Milk bubbles are heavier than soap bubbles, so be prepared for drips and splashes of colorful milk.  A simple tray works perfect for containing all the milky spills.



Once there is a huge pile of bubbles, quickly lay your paper on top of the bubbles.  We found it worked best to use a light hand and gently press the paper into the bubbles.  The milk bubbles will pop right on your paper leaving behind unique designs.
